Making Waves Shodō

My work captures the ripple effects of human interaction in the natural world in ink and other water-based media. Each piece is a snapshot of perception, thoughts, and feelings—both mine and the viewer’s.

WHAT IS SHODŌ?

Shodō is a form of artistic handwriting that originated in China more than 3,000 years ago. In Japan, East Asia, and increasingly in the West, it is practiced as a discipline as well as an art form. Every brushstroke demands precision. It takes years of dedication to acquire a deep understanding and mastery of the essential skills. One can spend a lifetime as an eternal student of shodō.

You don’t need to translate my work in order to enjoy it. Sometimes the title of a piece offers clues to its meaning. Your response is equally important... how a piece resonates on the first encounter, the thoughts and feelings it evokes in you, and the impressions that evolve over time as you continue to encounter it day by day, week by week, year by year.
